Has a Non - Trivial Invariant Subspace

In this paper, to solve the invariant subspace problem, contraction operators are classified into three classes ; (Case 1) completely nonunitary contractions with a non-trivial algebraic element, (Case 2) completely non-unitary contractions without a non-trivial algebraic element, or (Case 3) contractions which are not completely non-unitary. We know that every operator of (Case 3) has a non-tr...

Learning invariant features through local space contraction

We present in this paper a novel approach for training deterministic auto-encoders. We show that by adding a well chosen penalty term to the classical reconstruction cost function, we can achieve results that equal or surpass those attained by other regularized auto-encoders as well as denoising auto-encoders on a range of datasets. This penalty term corresponds to the Frobenius norm of the Jac...

Does Superstring Theory Have a Conformally Invariant Limit?

This talk describes a proposal, due to Hull, for a conformally invariant limit of superstring theory in six dimensions. Talk presented at the Ninth Marcel Grossmann Meeting (MG9) Work supported in part by the U.S. Dept. of Energy under Grant No. DE-FG03-92-ER40701.

Non-trivial 2d Space-times from Matrices

Solutions of matrix quantum mechanics have been shown to describe time dependent backgrounds in the holographically dual two dimensional closed string theory. We review some recent work dealing with non-trivial space-times which arise in this fashion and discuss aspects of physical phenomena in them. Based on talk at “International Workshop on String Theory”, Khajuraho, December 2004.

A non-trivial example of a trivial strongly analytic multifunction

Using a construction similar to an iterated function system, but with functions changing at each step of iteration, we provide a natural example of a continuous one-parameter family of holomorphic functions of infinitely many variables. This family is parametrized by the compact space of positive integer sequences of prescribed growth and hence it can also be viewed as a parametric description ...
